Division of Public Defender Training The Division of Public Defender Training within the Office of Indigent Appeals provides a means for state, county and municipal public defenders to receive the required 12 hours of continuing legal education per year, including ethics. Monies collected from various fines are credited to the Public Defenders Education Fund and are appropriated by the Legislature each year for public defender training. The MOIA, Training Division also provides services to public defenders by offering continuing legal education programs and case law and legislative updates.
Mississippi Public Defenders Association (MPDA) The Mississippi Public Defenders Association is a non-profit organization which provides support to public defenders in the state. The MPDA provides services to members by offering legislative updates, networking and brainstorming opportunities for trial preparation, model jury instructions, appellate brief guides, and the support of a group of attorneys committed to seeking justice through the protection of the constitutional rights of all persons charged with a crime in the state courts of Mississippi.
Directory of MS Public Defenders A directory of Mississippi Public Defenders has and is being compiled by the Division of Public Defender Training. If you are a public defender in Mississippi, please send your name, address, phone number and any other information to info@oia.ms.gov. This will ensure that you are included in the directory and will receive training announcements.
